Colombian Arepas are a symbol of Colombian identity.
They are corn rolls that you can fill with whatever you like.
You can also eat them as bread and accompany any meal.
They are prepared with few and very basic ingredients that you surely have in your kitchen.
In addition, as they are cooked in the pan, the result is very fast.
I hope you enjoy them.
Ingredients
- 2 cups INTERTRÓPICO corn flour
- 2 cups of water (480 milliliters)
- 100g fresh cheese INTERTRÓPICO
- 30g grated cheese
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 pinch of ground Intertrópico chili bell pepper
- Oil
- salt to taste
Steps
STEP 1
Mix the corn flour with the seasonings and grated cheese.
STEP 2
Add warm water little by little until a malleable dough is formed.
You can add a little butter to add more flavor to the dough.
STEP 3
Separate into buns or small balls of dough for filling.
STEP 4
Grease a frying pan with oil, with a kitchen brush or a napkin.
STEP 5
Flatten each ball of dough a little and add the fresh cheese, then enclose it in the dough and shape it into an arepa.
STEP 6
Place on a preheated and greased griddle or frying pan over medium heat, turn over after 5 minutes and cook for the same amount of time.
STEP 7
A Colombian trick is to cover them so that they cook better and are creamy on the outside and crunchy on the inside.
Tips
You can accompany the arepas con queso with huevos pericos for breakfast or with Intertrópico chili sauce for lunch or dinner.
